Latest Custom Citrine Ring For A Fabulous Customer

A wonderful lady came into MALKA Diamonds & Jewelry in downtown Portland acquiring about custom work. She had gold from jewelry that she wasn’t wearing and had a very whimsical sketch of what she was envisioning. She worked with Stewart, our jeweler, and together they agreed on the creation of this new piece. Tracey came in to the shop a few times and looked over the wax. Today she came in to pick up the yellow gold citrine ring. It fit perfectly! Taking old and unworn jewelry that sits in a drawer and creating a unique custom piece true to your style is the MALKA way. Thanks Tracey for choosing MALKA Diamonds.

Oscar 2012 Jewelry – Classic & Timeless

The Oscars are always a fun night and without a doubt a display of some of the most beautifully made jewelry. Last night it seemed that there were many actresses wearing diamond Rivera necklaces. The Rivera is a timeless and classic look. Last year, Anne Hathaway wore a Rivera diamond necklace as she hosted the event. This year many celebrities wore the Riveria Diamond Necklace including Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and Missi Pyle. Cameron Diaz wore an emerald-cut diamond necklace, Penelope Cruz wore a 56 carat total weight pear-shaped diamond necklace with and Missi Pyle wore a 34 carat total weight fancy-shaped diamond necklace. On 3rd Ave in Downtown Portland we are one of the only jewelry store that has a Rivera diamond necklace in our case. Come down and take a look at this timeless and classic piece.

MALKA Diamonds & Jewelry attends Portland’s LGBT Bridal Show

MALKA Diamonds & Jewelry was one of the 30 Portland vendors that attended the Same-Sex Bridal Show today.  We were honored to be invited to share this special day with Oregon & Washington same-sex couples planning their wedding day.  Over 150 couples came to the Red Lion Hotel to attend this wonderful event.  MALKA Diamonds showcased past custom projects, images of engagement rings and displayed a large variety of wedding bands for all.  It was a great day and we were pleased to be part of the LGBT bridal show.  Below is a small cluster of rings that were loved by todays attendees. We look forward to meeting more Portland & Seattle couples at future Gay & Lesbian bridal events.

Turquoise – Always In!

Turquoise has been one of the worlds most popular stones for thousands of years.  Its popularity stays high around the world and especially in North America.  This gemstone dates back to the 16th century where it was first found in Turkey.  The name Turquoise is old French for “turkish”.  Today we see Turquoise in jewelry across the board.  You can find it as a fashion piece with sterling silver or in fine jewelry with yellow gold (see image below).  This turquoise ring retails at $630 and is 14 karat yellow gold with .17 carat total weight of diamonds.  You can find this ring as well as other rings at MALKA Diamonds & Jewelry in downtown Portland.

Wedding Anniversary Gifts by Year

David & I wedded on the 7th of July 2002 and if you do the math you would come up with the same calculations that I have.  Our 10 year anniversary is coming up!  Today and for many generations before us people have followed the “List For Wedding Anniversary Gifts By Year”.  The cheat sheet for the list can be found below.

In the list you will find that a diamond anniversary gift only appears twice.  The 10 year and 60 year are the diamond years.  Many of our customers are choosing to do something with diamonds for their ten-year.  One customer is designing her engagement ring using some elements that her mom left her.  Another customer purchased diamond stud earrings and another decided to remount their engagement stone and add some side stones to the piece.  David just told me to start thinking about a new setting for my engagement ring.  Send me some thoughts on what your ideal 10 or 60 year diamond gift would be.  I’m looking forward to this 10 year anniversary and the 60 more years to come.
